About the role

As a CNC Turning Operator, you will set up, operate, and inspect multiple conversational and CNC turning centers to perform machining functions such as turning, tapping, reaming, boring, and deburring of alloy and non-alloy workpieces. This position is on-site in Euclid, Ohio.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operate multiple machines and machining centers.
  • Read, interpret, and follow complex blueprints, operating sheets, procedures, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods.
  • Mount, align, position, and secure tooling, attachments, and workpieces on machines.
  • Enter commands to input, output, or retrieve preprogrammed instructions from the database.
  • Calculate, set, and operate machine controls to regulate cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  • Input SPC and measurement-related information as defined by the engineering community to establish and maintain process controls.
  • Monitor displays and machine operations to detect malfunctions or deviations; adjust controls to correct issues or measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications.
  • Operate machines manually for non-automated functions or when automatic programming is faulty.
  • Use precision inspection equipment to verify all applicable features using appropriate inspection methods.
  • Maintain logs or records and discuss control media errors with supervisors and engineering/programming personnel to resolve problems.
  • Perform daily machine maintenance and housekeeping duties, including maintaining and adjusting oil and coolant levels, monitoring coolant concentration, and cleaning machines and work areas.
  • Operate pendant crane and rig parts ranging from 5-1000 lbs; use motorized and manual pallet jacks and box dollies as necessary.
  • Assist other operators with proper operational procedures, including training on machine operation and related tasks.
  • Wear all appropriate PPE and abide by all safety rules and regulations as designated by the local EH&S department.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in set-up and operations of CNC Turning or Mill/Turn Centers, or completion of an accredited training program.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to demonstrate CNC control abilities, including editing speeds, feeds, tool offsets, and fixture offsets.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency in using various measuring instruments, including dial bore gages, indicator snap gages, verniers, and 0.0001 micrometers.
  • Sufficient computer skills and process skills to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Possession of necessary personal tools.
  • Willingness and availability to work any shift (2nd shift: 3pm - 11pm, 3rd shift: 11pm - 7am).

Pay

The starting rate for this position in Ohio (US-OH) is $42.70 per hour. The total compensation package may also include a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits, subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

As a federal government contractor, BWXT requires U.S. citizenship and successful completion of a pre-employment check, drug screening, and potentially a background investigation for access to classified/sensitive information.
