Job Roles and Responsibilities
- Supervise the CNC Programming function, directing the daily activities of programming personnel to ensure accurate and timely programming for all CNC and VMC work centers.
- Oversee setup and programming on all CNC systems, providing direct technical support to subordinates, setup personnel, and machine operators to eliminate production delays.
- Perform all necessary department functions as needed, including programming, machine set-ups, and hands-on operation.
- Study production schedules to effectively plan and schedule workloads for the department.
- Enforce company rules, policies, and regulations, with a strict emphasis on safety compliance.
- Train employees for key positions and conduct regular performance appraisals for the CNC programming staff.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, lead personnel, and operations supervisors to resolve problems, avoiding production delays, and communicate operational issues to the Production Manager.
- Recommend, implement, and facilitate upgrades to improve departmental efficiencies and overall operations.
- Manage and ensure the adequate stocking of necessary tools and materials.
- Maintain an awareness of current industry trends and technological developments to improve CNC programming systems through continuous education (seminars, courses, webinars), while also enhancing your own supervisory/management skills.
- Promote the overall well-being and success of the company through strong leadership and technical excellence.
Qualifications And Certifications
- Education: Associate Degree required, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
- Experience: 5 to 7 years of related experience in a CNC/CAM environment or other machining industry.
- Technical Skills: Must have proven experience in basic CNC software programming, specifically MasterCam. Must be highly familiar with HAAS CNC and VMC equipment, including set-ups and calling programs.
- Quality Control: Familiarity with precision inspection equipment (dial calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, indicator set-ups) and gage calibrations to inspect products for strict conformance.
- Soft Skills: Proven leadership abilities with exceptional problem-solving and customer relations skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate with both business and technical audiences.
