About the role

The American Housing Corporation is on a mission to solve America’s housing crisis through all‑out production. By vertically integrating development—buying land, manufacturing, installing, and selling homes directly to customers—the company aims to build at the scale needed to address affordability. As a CNC Programmer, you will develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for multi‑axis machining equipment that produces components for the proprietary building system. You will translate engineering drawings and 3D models into efficient, accurate programs, develop tooling and machining strategies, and work closely with production and engineering to deliver safe, repeatable, high‑quality manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering drawings, CAD models (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar), and technical specifications to determine machining processes, tooling, fixtures, and work‑holding methods.
  • Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software for 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis mills, lathes, and multi‑tasking machines.
  • Generate accurate toolpaths that maximize material removal rates, minimize cycle times, maintain tight tolerances, and ensure safe, collision‑free operation.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and depths of cut based on material properties such as aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, plastics, and other production materials.
  • Perform program prove‑outs, first‑article inspections, and process validation on the production floor.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues—including tool wear, chatter, dimensional errors, and surface‑finish problems—and revise programs as needed.
  • Maintain organized program libraries, tooling documentation, setup sheets, and process documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve manufacturability and provide design‑for‑manufacturing feedback.
  • Support continuous‑improvement initiatives focused on cycle‑time reduction, scrap reduction, tooling performance, quality, and process standardization.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and company policies and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a CNC Programmer in a precision machining environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certificate in CNC Programming, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with at least one major CAM software package; Mastercam preferred, with Fusion 360, SolidCAM, Siemens NX, or equivalent also acceptable.
  • Strong understanding of G‑code and M‑code programming, including the ability to manually edit and troubleshoot programs at the control.
  • Experience programming multi‑axis CNC equipment, including 3‑ and 4‑axis mills and CNC lathes; 5‑axis simultaneous machining and multi‑tasking/mill‑turn experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), and 3D CAD models.
  • Strong working knowledge of machining principles, cutting‑tool technology, speeds and feeds, work‑holding methods, and fixturing.
  • Familiarity with metrology tools and basic inspection techniques (calipers, micrometers, height gauges); CMM experience is a plus.
  • Strong problem‑solving and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of advanced CAM features such as high‑speed machining strategies, rest machining, adaptive clearing, and toolpath optimization preferred.
  • Experience with post‑processor customization or CNC control systems (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, Mazak, Okuma, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Background in aerospace, medical, automotive, or other precision industries with tight‑tolerance requirements preferred.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous‑improvement experience preferred.

Additional Information

  • Location: Austin, TX (full‑time, hourly position).
  • Reports to: Production Manager.
  • Significant time spent on the production floor in a machine‑shop environment with exposure to noise, coolant, metal chips, and fiber dust; appropriate PPE is provided.
  • Physical requirements: ability to stand and walk for extended periods and consistently lift and move 40–50 lb.
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime or adjusted hours may be required to support production needs.
