Key Responsibilities
- Analyzes drawings, sketches and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools and machine speeds and feed rates.
- Analyzes routings during programming stage and updates processes to guarantee CNC machine tools are used to their fullest capability.
- Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine parts.
- Writes program of machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical control tape or direct numerical control data base to regulate movement of machine along cutting path.
- Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
- Creates standard work documents for CNC machines in regard to tooling and programs.
- Makes improvements to set up times for a task and contouring of complex shapes.
- Evaluates completed designs to validate their functions and ensure they successfully reduce time and money for the client.
- Monitors programs to make sure they follow blueprint instructions and safely and successfully complete the task.
Skills
- Proficient in Fanuc programming controls.
- Previous machining experience in lathes and mills.
- Ability to program Lathe, Mill and Multi-Axis Machines.
- Proficient in Conversational programming experience and G Codes.
- Proficient in Featurcam or other Cad/Cam programs for multi axis machines.
- Proficient in reading and using Micrometers, bore gages and dial calipers.
- Proficient in programming to drawings and blueprints specification.
- Prior experience as a CNC machine operator in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to design/recommend/manufacture fixturing for jobs.
- Good understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
- Ability to write macro programs for ease of machining.
Education And Experience
- Certification from accredited technical school preferred.
- 2+ years’ experience in operating a CNC mill or lathe required.
- 6+ years in manufacturing environment.
