CNC Operator - 3rd Shift

Pay starts at $23.66/hour and increases every 90 days based on performance during a training period of up to 18 months. Associates on the 3rd shift receive a $2.75/hour shift differential.

Schedule

8pm – 6am Sunday night through Wednesday night.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate one or more CNC machines and all other equipment in the assigned cell.
  • Transfer commands from servers to CNC modules using computer network links.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement according to required machining sequences. Finished workpieces may be lifted manually or with hoists and cranes.
  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as dull cutting tools or excessive vibration; adjust machines to compensate for problems.
  • Monitor control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and ensure proper usage of assigned machinery, tools, and component parts in the cell.
  • Follow Standard Work instructions and make all programming and mechanical adjustments.
  • Move between assigned cell and other cells at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety and health standards.
  • Participate in Kaizen events and seek to continuously improve work processes.
  • Perform duties of the next job below and above in the value stream as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic measuring, math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of Standard Process Controls (SPC).
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Strong understanding of the English language, including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Previous experience conducting tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, review related information, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to follow directions with attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 6 to 9 months of on-the-job training or related vocational training program required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels, dust particles, light radiation, paint or oil products, and weather changes.
  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required during the shift.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, arm-hand steadiness, finger dexterity, manual dexterity, control precision, near vision, and hearing sensitivity.
