CNC Manufacturing Engineer

About the Role
As a CNC Manufacturing Engineer at Western Enterprises, you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring productivity improvements, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and developing new processes and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Implements and monitors productivity improvements such as cycle time improvements and cost cutting measures.
- Ensures all safety procedures and rules are followed and resolves safety issues.
- Initiates and follows through on action items to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Troubleshoots manufacturing issues, writes, and edits programs.
- Establishes costs and processes for new parts.
- Oversees shop orders, in-house inspections, operator inspections, nonconformance issues, and material and scrap disposition.
- Verifies adherence to methods of operation and ISO procedures, maintains training programs, and trains/coaches employees.
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing operations, including fixturing, tooling, and methods.
- Develops new processes and implements new equipment, conducts new equipment qualification and validation, identifies deficiencies, and implements Lean Sigma principles.
- Conducts pre-reviews and post-reviews of jobs, identifies and solves manufacturing problems, and responds to issues with urgency.
- Manages processes for continuous improvements, cost reductions, and quality improvements.
- Develops, evaluates, and improves set-up methods to reduce set-up times and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Aids or leads in the development of capital equipment justification proposals and implementations of new equipment.
- Collaborates with planning, quality, purchasing, assembly, and design staff to ensure efficient production methods.
- Maintains positive working relationships to support a positive workplace environment.
- Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience with implementation of continuous improvement initiatives preferred.
- Technical school background helpful.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machining.
- Ability to drive positive changes in operations using continuous improvement tools, teamwork, and shop floor metrics, including quality, cost, delivery, safety, and housekeeping.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership by example.
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Specific safety and procedural training.
- Understanding of blueprints, drawing interpretation, and inspection planning sheets.
- Knowledge of ISO and medical procedures.
- Statistical methods for estimating future manufacturing requirements.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of GD&T and writing/editing programs for CNC machines.
- Understanding of production planning concepts.
- Working knowledge of machining, materials, quality programs, and safety programs.
- Knowledge of creating manufacturing prints.
Qualifications
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of machining, materials, quality programs, and safety programs.
- Knowledge of writing and editing programs for all types of CNC machines.
- Understanding of production planning concepts.
- Knowledge of using different computer programs to create reports using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
- Knowledge of creating manufacturing prints.
