Reports to: Machinist Lead
Responsibilities
- Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machine
- Check and change parts on fixture and vice
- Oversee machines while they execute tasks
- Perform blueprint math: stacked tolerance, edge distance
- Follow procedures, work instructions, and select proper tools
- Use precision measuring devices
- Make tool offset changes to meet tolerance of part features
- Perform various CNC machining operations on CNC mill and lathe
- Support equipment such as Bridgeport mill, manual lathe, and grinders as required
- Utilize general knowledge and understanding of CAD/CAM systems
- Use blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product
- Update and follow setup sheets
- Set up mill attachments such as 4th and 5th axis
- Perform mathematical calculations related to SFPM, RPM, feed rates, and chip load
- Program simple parts
- Demonstrate knowledge of G&M code
- Take direction from leads
- Work with and mentor operators and machinists
- Set up machines for operators and mentor machinists and operators
- Support welding and sheet metal with tooling as needed
- Design tooling as needed for specific jobs
- Create fixtures
- Program parts to finish on 3-axis and 4-axis setups, including positional programming
- Edit programs by hand on machine control
- Perform any other duties as required by the organization
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Mechanically inclined
- Ability to follow instructions and be proficient in CAD/CAM programs
- Safety conscious
- Experience making and programming R&D and first article parts
- 6+ years of experience in machining processes
- Experience in SolidWorks and CAMWorks is a plus
- CNC and SolidWorks/CAMWorks programming training as required
