About the role

Set up and operate CNC lathe/mill to perform a variety of machining operations or set up and operate various manual machines. Edit programs, speeds, and feeds. Maintain and check dimensions to blueprints and sketches using precision measuring instruments. Improvise machine set-up to perform non-standard work. Work in a team-oriented, 6S manufacturing environment with a commitment to workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Review work order requirements and drawings; obtain fixtures and tools for preparation.
  • Set up and operate CNC or manual lathes/mills to perform machining operations, including tracing complex profiles and adjusting set-ups, speeds, feeds, and tool angles per engineering drawings.
  • Set up and operate manual lathes/mills for operations such as single-point threading.
  • Edit programs, speeds, and feeds.
  • Use manual tools to deburr and degrease parts.
  • Set up and operate drill presses, punch presses, and other secondary equipment for drilling, tapping, reaming, and countersinking.
  • Use jigs, fixtures, blocks, or shims to level and align irregularly shaped parts.
  • Check for concentricity, formed sections, steps, or shoulders to close tolerances of +/- 0.001" or less.
  • Improvise machine set-ups for non-standard work.
  • Train entry-level machinists.
  • Report problems or difficulties to the supervisor.
  • Maintain work area, equipment, and supplies in a neat, orderly condition following 6S standards.
  • Follow safety procedures and policies.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in machining.
  • Able to set up and operate CNC machines.
  • Understanding of G codes and M codes.
  • Able to read drawings and blueprints; calculate or determine dimensions not given.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Proficient with measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and checking gauges.
  • Basic data input and computer skills.
  • PLC knowledge to edit programs.
  • Experience operating manual secondary equipment such as drill presses, saws, and punch presses.
  • Able to operate lathes and/or mills for turning, facing, and boring to hold tolerances of +/- 0.001".
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) awareness.
  • Flexibility in shift times and overtime.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Associate’s or Technical Degree (preferred).
  • U.S. citizenship.
