CNC Machinist
About the role
The ideal candidate brings a sharp eye for precision, comfort with blueprints and GD&T, and pride in getting the measurements right the first time. Success here comes from a mix of technical skill (reading blueprints, running mics and calipers, understanding tolerances) and the right mindset - reliable, safety-first, willing to learn, and able to collaborate with engineering and production teams to solve problems on the fly.
Responsibilities
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications.
- Run production pre or post welding machining.
- Set up and Operate CNC equipment.
- Measure, examine, and test complicated parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
- Set up, create, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines as well as the tool life for each consumable during the machining process.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
- Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering, supervision, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
- Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup production.
- Maintain an organized machine shop in line with Lean Principles and 5S.
- Advise and recommend future technical and/or operational direction and process improvements as related to this function.

Demonstrated ability to maintain manual dexterity and a keen eye for detail.
Confident proficiency in mathematics and mechanics.
Dedication and respect for safety precautions and safe best practices.
Able to use precision tools to take accurate measurements: Mics, Calipers, Gauges.
Knowledge of metal properties and machining tools to use for the various metals.
Able to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
Flexibility and ability to quickly re-prioritize tasks.
Excellent verbal communication skills related to team development and cohesion.
Must conduct oneself with the highest level of professional and ethical standards.
Preferred Skills or Competencies
- Basic welding knowledge and experience.
- Experience operating production equipment and meeting production requirements.
- Experience interpreting customer needs.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with CNC calculating computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software.
- Basic programming skills and machine set up skills.
- Understanding and experience of using manual equipment like, lathes, mills, and surface grinders.
