CNC Machine Operator - Drill Cell

Arthrex, Inc. is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. We are actively searching for CNC Machine Operators to support our Pendleton, SC manufacturing facility.

About the role

Produce superior products following Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. standards. Troubleshoot and repair equipment when machines are not working properly.

Responsibilities

• With little to no supervision, follow written processes and operate a variety of CNC machines and special processes.
• Receive work orders and verify components are correct.
• Receive material and load on bar feeder.
• Perform and record line clearance.
• Verify the machine is running the correct program.
• Deburr parts as required.
• Measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Interact in a manufacturing environment with a variety of personnel and shift changeover on a daily basis.
• Confirm inspection process is kept at AQLS C=0 (e.g., check parts every 30 minutes).
• Maintain good quality and production output.
• Sort/rework parts as required.
• Assist with other operations as needed.
• Perform data entry in SAP system.
• Demonstrate exceptional teamwork.
• Maintain work area in a clean, orderly condition and follow safety procedures.
• Report any safety or maintenance concerns to management immediately.
• Perform first cut-off and return all axes to the home position.
• Stop machine to change settings, replace tools, and perform tool offsets.
• Recommend process improvements with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.

CNC Machine Operator II

• All duties listed above, plus:
• Adjust bar feeder for proper size of material and perform a dry run without material; verify material against work order for correct lot number.
• Perform first PC inspection when setup is completed.
• Adjust tools to meet blueprint specifications.
• Download programs to the machine, dry run machine with no material and all tools in place.
• Monitor screen pages and machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjust machine controls or control media.
• Verify the correct program in the machine is running.
• Set up multi-axis lathes and milling machining centers; operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Demonstrate ability to streamline processes to increase productivity and quality.
• Install and adjust collets with proper pressure.
• Clean and assemble all collet assemblies; remove or replace fixtures, collets, and tools.
• Inspect old collets and guide brushes.
• Verify correct tools against tool sheet and program; set up any type of tool in the pre-setter and/or machine.
• Notify programmers of issues and updates required for improvements.
• Support machine operators as assigned by Crew Coordinators and/or Supervisor.

CNC Machine Operator III

• All duties listed above, plus:
• Set up production and pilot production jobs consistently, timely, and accurately.
• Identify root cause of problems related to machine settings, tooling, fixturing, and collets; notify leadership and correct when authorized.
• Drive others to exceed goals.
• Identify programming, tool data sheets (TDS), and/or process data sheets (PDS) issues/discrepancies and notify Engineering.
• Assist crew coordinators and mentor lower-level operators using effective training and troubleshooting methodology.

Requirements

• CNC Machine Operator I: High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 months of direct CNC experience.
• CNC Machine Operator II: High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of direct CNC machine experience.
• CNC Machine Operator III: High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of direct CNC machine experience.

Skills

• All Levels:

  • Successful completion of assigned curriculum within 180 days of hire/transfer, including Fundamentals of Manufacturing.
  • Basic computer literacy and math skills.
• CNC Machine Operator II:
  • CNC machine setup experience preferred.
  • Use of different types of measuring tools and perform all aspects of line clearance.
• CNC Machine Operator III:
  • CNC machine setup experience required.
  • Use of different types of measuring tools and perform all aspects of line clearance.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
• Machine, Tools, and Equipment Skills:
  • Multi-axis Swiss lathes

Physical Demands

Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Light Work.

Work Environment

The work environment includes occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually moderate.

Schedule

Day Shift: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
