About the role

A CNC Machinist 2 sets up and operates CNC and manual Lathes or Milling machines, reads and interprets blueprints, and applies basic tooling principles.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC and manual Lathes or Milling machines according to HES procedures and engineering blueprints.
  • Run jobs with minimal supervision after setup.
  • Use all associated precision measuring tools of the shop.
  • Understand tooling and metals, including exotics.
  • Communicate daily with engineers and planners to ensure routers and schedules are accurate.
  • Support and assist with the machine preventive maintenance (PM) program.
  • Read and understand the HES Quality Manual.
  • Interpret critical dimensions on engineering blueprints and ensure dimensional and quality requirements of components are met.
  • Proactively identify and implement ways to reduce setup times and communicate improvements to update routers and schedules.
  • Participate in “Lean” processes by collaborating with Planning, Quality, and peers to improve flow and increase throughput.
  • Identify potential cost reductions related to product design and communicate them to Leads and Engineering for evaluation.
  • Understand calibration cycles of test tools.
  • Follow Hunting Practices and Procedures and understand all shop and machine equipment safety hazards.
  • Assist in training employees on “Lean” and “Flow” philosophies and practices.
  • Maintain forklift certification and comply with hazardous communication requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Technical school certificate or completion of an Apprentice program (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1–2 years in Manual Lathe or Mill operation and 3–5 years of experience in CNC Lathe or Mill operation.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with Lathe or Mill programming languages.
  • Experience running Mori Seiki multi-axis machines with live tooling.
  • Experience in an Engineer-to-Order or Make-to-Order shop environment.
  • Training and understanding of “Lean Manufacturing Principles” (a plus).
  • Proven ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Commitment to high-quality standards and continuous improvement.
  • Well-organized, multi-tasking self-starter.
  • Ability to utilize ERP systems for everyday job processes.
  • Willingness to work all regular hours plus overtime as required.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Compliance with the company Drug and Alcohol Policy, including participation in random drug testing.
  • Ability to pass background checks appropriate to the position.

Physical Demands

  • Onsite presence required to perform essential duties.
  • Frequent standing, use of hands to handle tools or controls, and communication (talking/hearing).
  • Occasional walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Onsite presence required.
  • Work primarily involves office tasks on a computer but requires walking and presence on the manufacturing floor.
