Gurwin Healthcare System is a full healthcare continuum providing extraordinary care to the Long Island community and beyond. Set primarily on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the system includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Gurwin's Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish: Fay J. Lindner Residences), an independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens), Island Nursing and Rehab Center, and two certified (CHHA) and licensed home care (LHCSA) agencies.

About the role

We are seeking Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who will embody the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents. Positions are available every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) across all shifts:

• 7:00am–3:15pm
• 3:00pm–11:15pm
• 11:00pm–7:15am

Requirements

• Current, non-expired certification in the New York State Nurse Aide Registry.
• No findings or convictions of resident abuse, mistreatment, exploitation, neglect, or misappropriation of resident property on the Registry.
• One year of long-term care experience preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, CNAs perform a variety of services for geriatric residents, including:

• Assisting with personal care and Activities of Daily Living:
  • Bed baths, showers, tub baths, and shampoos.
  • Perineal care, oral hygiene, hair and nail care (non-diabetic).
  • Toileting, including bowel and bladder training regimens, bed pans, and urinals.
  • Distributing drinking water and nourishments.
  • Assisting with meals, including transporting residents to the dining room, tray distribution/collection, and feeding residents.
  • Routine AM and PM care.
• Additional duties as assigned by the team leader or charge nurse:
  • Maintaining non-patient areas (e.g., tub room, utility room) in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Assisting with admission and discharge procedures.
  • Answering residents' call lights.
  • Performing errands for the nursing unit.
  • Maintaining residents' living areas (beds, bedside tables, wheelchairs, clothing drawers, closets, and bathroom storage) in a clean and orderly manner.
• Observing and reporting changes in patient condition or responses to care, including:
  • Measuring and recording fluid intake and output.
  • Taking and recording temperatures, pulses, and respirations.
  • Obtaining routine specimens (urine, stool, sputum).
  • Testing urine for sugar and acetone.
  • Administering routine enemas.
  • Obtaining and recording residents' weights.
• Assisting residents with mobility:
  • Transferring in and out of bed, chairs, and stretches.
  • Lifting, turning, and positioning residents while applying principles of good body alignment.
