About the Role
This job works collaboratively to maintain patient safety and provide for the delivery of basic patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. You may provide constant observation of the patient, notify nursing personnel of changes in behavior or status, and intervene as needed to maintain patient safety. The role involves effective communication with co-workers, patients, family, and visitors, performing delegated functions, and adhering to policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Supports the plan of care as delegated by staff nurse within scope of skills verification.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.
- Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
- Communicates patient care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multi-disciplinary teams.
- Completes documentation of patient-related tasks.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, and communication style.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance.
Requirements
- Current state of practice Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association to be obtained within 30 days from hire.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) to be obtained within 30 days from hire.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability).
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and hospital/telemetry experience.
Skills
- Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Adaptability to different patient populations and care needs.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
- Works in a patient care area, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.
- Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste.
