About the role

This position serves as a Relief Unit Secretary/Restorative Aide and is an auxiliary worker of the nursing team. The role performs clerical duties on the nursing unit and assists in resident care as situations warrant to meet the overall needs of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone, make appointments, and relay messages courteously.
  • Answer call lights in a timely manner.
  • Thin and file papers pulled from charts in their respective folders in the Medical Records room.
  • Maintain required forms in file drawers for nurses’ use.
  • Prepare consults and monitor for delays or lack of response for scheduling.
  • Prepare charts for doctors upon their scheduled visits.
  • Keep nurses station orderly at all times.
  • Order supplies from Central Supply for nurses.
  • Manage the resident lab calendar.
  • Interact with families and visitors, assisting when applicable.
  • Perform a monthly audit on each chart to determine incomplete items.
  • Enter monthly weights into the computer by the designated time.
  • Stay current with State and Federal regulations pertinent to Medical Records.
  • Assume a resident care group, transport residents to appointments, and provide ADL care as indicated.
  • Ensure resident safety by observing and interacting as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the Nursing department’s mission.
  • Work every other weekend providing direct resident care.
  • May participate in planning and implementing rehab care for assigned residents.
  • May be assigned to any unit as staffing needs change with short notice.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Requirements

  • Computer experience.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and language.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State of Virginia CNA License.
  • CPR certification required upon hire or willingness to obtain.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and two TB Skin Tests (excluding current DVS employees).

Pay

Hiring range: $31,579 – $50,064 (Pay Band 2). Salaries for current state employees will be determined according to the current state compensation plan.
