About the role
The CNA/Program Aide will provide direct personal care, restorative assistance, and behavioral support to participants with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia disorders. This role also involves supporting the Memory Care Activity Coordinator in implementing therapeutic, sensory, and failure-free activities, and collaborating with the food service team to safely serve meals and monitor nutrition.
Responsibilities
- Engage with participants using dementia-informed techniques (e.g., validation, redirection) to support their cognitive and emotional needs
- Promote independence by focusing on individual strengths while accommodating limitations
- Follows OSHA guidelines, practices universal precautions, and handles biohazard materials appropriately
- Participates in ongoing Quality Improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and emergency preparedness drills (such as the facility Missing Person Plan)
- Assist with daily activity programming, including group, one-on-one, and sensory-based activities, with appropriate adaptations
- Provide dignified support with personal care, including hygiene, toileting, and incontinence care
- Support safe mobility, transfers, and exercises using proper techniques and assistive devices
- Serve meals in accordance with dietary guidelines; assist with feeding and monitor intake as needed
- Record vital signs, document care and participant responses in EMR, and maintain accurate records
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with patients with dementia / long-term care required
- Current Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) in the State of Florida is required
- Certifications Home Health Aide (HHA) certification (75-hour program completed) is preferred
- Active Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications
Qualifications
