About the role
The Mental Health Assistant provides direct care services, assists with unit management duties, and supports patients with mental health and chemical dependency issues.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care services to patients with mental health and chemical dependency issues.
- Affords work direction and follows oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Accurately observes, recognizes, reports, and records physical symptoms and significant behavioral characteristics of patients.
- Verbalizes the needs of patients and demonstrates empathy and support.
- Lifts up to 75 lbs. and assists in lifting and moving patients.
- Deals with aggressive behavior and communicates information clearly and concisely.
Requirements
- Previous Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) experience is required.
- Knowledge of unit routines and the physical and psychological needs of the mentally ill.
- Understanding of patient safety procedures and standard treatment programs for the mentally ill.
- Ability to accurately document patient behavior and progress.
- Knowledge of patient's rights and effective methods of assigning and monitoring subordinates' work.

Pay
- Hourly rate: $20.25
- Shift differential: $2.00 pm and night shift, $1.50 weekend shift, $1.00 Geriatric pay.
Schedule
- Multiple shifts available, including holidays and weekends.
