About the role
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per care plan. A member of the nursing team, accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic health care needs including daily living activities: bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.
- Help residents with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks, ensuring a positive dining experience; provide water and supplements as appropriate.
- Document resident interactions, care outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
- Communicate residents' changing conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse.
- Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas.
- Assist with and document wellness and recreational programs; encourage resident participation.
- Support providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
- Participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as required.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing required; certification must be obtained within four months of hire (facility provides training and certification).
- Satisfactorily complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintain all required certifications, including UAP Registry where applicable.
- May require a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle report (dependent on facility needs).
Pay
Salary range: $21.00 – $25.50 per hour (based on experience) plus extra differential for night shifts. $10,000 sign-on bonus paid within the first 60 days of employment.
Schedule
- Full-time, 36 weekly hours.
- 12-hour night shifts.
- Every other weekend and holiday required.
