CMT Field Technician 1

Job Responsibilities

• Perform field and plant inspections for HMA and/or PCC production and placement
• Conduct sampling and testing of construction materials in accordance with applicable standards
• Maintain and calibrate testing equipment
• Document and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
• Communicate findings and issues to project engineers and contractors
• Assist in resolving material-related construction issues
• Support project documentation and closeout processes

Requirements

• Education: Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a related field, OR High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant experience in construction materials testing or inspection
• Professional Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or quality assurance. Experience with HMA and/or PCC plant inspection is required (minimum 1 year)

Desired Qualifications

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I Certification
• Experience working on transportation infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, bridges, airports)
• Familiarity with Caltrans or other DOT specifications and procedures
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Technical Requirements

• Certifications (preferred or required): ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I, Caltrans Acceptance Tester Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months), Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification (for HMA testing), OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
• Valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Experience with data entry and reporting software (e.g., SiteManager, LIMS)
• Familiarity with nuclear density gauges, slump cones, air meters, and other field testing equipment
• Understanding of construction materials standards (ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans)
• Knowledge of quality control/quality assurance procedures in construction materials testing

Other Miscellaneous Qualities

• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including occasional overnight stays depending on project location
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed
