CMM Programmer
Job Summary
The CMM Programmer is responsible for developing and executing measurement programs using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure the dimensional accuracy of CNC-machined automotive chassis components. Responsibilities include creating, modifying, and optimizing CMM programs, maintaining and troubleshooting CMM equipment, following APQP procedures, interpreting engineering drawings and CAD models, collaborating with engineers, performing capabilities studies, and ensuring compliance with IATF 16949 standards.
Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and optimize CMM programs using software like Calypso (Zeiss) and MCOSMOS (Mitutoyo).
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot CMM equipment.
- Follow automotive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) procedures.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD models to develop accurate measurement routines.
- Collaborate with engineers to resolve dimensional layouts and improve manufacturing processes.
- Absorb and provide training to department staff.
- Perform capabilities studies, gauge repeatability and reproducibility, and provide statistical reports on process control, process capability, and gauge repeatability.
- Develop CMM work instructions.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 standards and other required certifications.
Requirements
- 2+ Years proven experience as a CMM Programmer, with specific expertise in Zeiss and Mitutoyo CMM machines, in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently (self-directed) and in a team-oriented environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or technical certification in a related field preferred.
Skills
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.
