CMM Operator/Programmer
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced CMM Operator/Programmer to support our Incoming Material Quality and Metrology function. This is a hands-on technical role for a quality professional with deep expertise in precision measurement, GD&T interpretation, and CMM programming.
Position Responsibilities
Perform incoming inspection activities to ensure materials meet engineering and quality requirements before entering production
Execute inspection plans including methods, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria
Identify and apply appropriate controls to critical characteristics
Support quarantine material handling and participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities as needed
Create, maintain, and optimize CMM inspection programs
Operate advanced metrology equipment including CMMs, Romer Arms, laser scanners, and optical systems
Apply expert knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and blueprint interpretation to inspection activities
Support datum strategy, fixture concepts, and inspection feasibility assessments
Support prototype builds and First Article production through dimensional inspection
Provide metrology expertise for FAI and early production releases
Collaborate with Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Manufacturing during new part introduction
Interface with Supplier Quality Engineers, Production Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering on quality issues and part reviews
Participate in issue resolution meetings and critical part design reviews
Contribute a quality and inspectability perspective in design for manufacturability discussions
Support quality reporting using established dashboard and reporting tools
Communicate material quality status, trends, and findings to the Material Quality Supervisor and cross-functional stakeholders
Use measurement data to support continuous improvement initiatives
Position Qualifications
5+ years of progressive experience in a CMM programming and operation role within a manufacturing environment
Advanced expertise in CMM programming and operation
Expert-level knowledge of GD&T and dimensional inspection
Hands-on experience with precision measurement tools and portable metrology systems
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver accurate results with minimal supervision
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Ideal Candidates Will Also Have:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metrology, or a related technical discipline
Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience
Experience with FAI, MRB, SPC, MSA, APQP, and PPAP
Background supporting prototype builds and early production programs
