About the role

This position provides patient care, clinical support, and administrative services in a healthcare setting. The role includes preparing patients for examinations, administering treatments, communicating test results, and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient for examination by recording vitals, medical history, and chief complaint.
  • Administer injections, medications, vaccines, and IVs as directed by providers and within the scope of licensure.
  • Perform laboratory tests (including point-of-care phlebotomy, specimen collection, and diagnostic tests) as directed by providers and within the scope of licensure.
  • Communicate test results, follow-up instructions, and address patient questions and concerns in a timely manner according to clinic policy.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms with necessary sanitation procedures and supplies.
  • Use clinical judgment to assess patients' health status in person or via phone, and recommend clinic and/or ER visit as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with team members and other providers to ensure all patient-care and administrative duties are completed in a timely manner.
  • Travel to other clinics to provide support as directed by clinic leadership.
  • Answer patient phone calls and facilitate communication between patient and provider.
  • Complete messages and tasks as assigned in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and procedures and submit referrals as directed by providers.
  • Complete prior authorizations for procedures and medications as required.
  • Aid in maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Practice in a professional, safe, and ethical manner.
  • Serve as a patient advocate.
  • Maintain friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.
  • Participate in performance improvement and educational activities.
  • Comply with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agree to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
  • Comply with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.
  • Maintain a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or similar certification required.
  • Currently certified as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Iowa.
  • If assigned, current certification in the State of Iowa to perform limited radiology examinations.
  • One year experience as a medical assistant preferred.
  • LPN with state license required; Current license to practice nursing in the state.
  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to create a caring, compassionate relationship with the patients and families.
  • Ability to collaborate with the healthcare team to use evidence-based practice in providing care.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Current, valid driver’s license.
  • Good driving record required.
