About the role
Effectively delivers care to the patient in the clinic setting through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Works with physicians and advanced practice providers to care for outpatients. Acknowledges patient’s rights, maintains patient confidentiality at all times and follows HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assists practitioner in safe, effective delivery of patient care.
- Adheres to all safety policies including emergency preparedness, fire safety and utility systems.
- Observes and assesses patient’s conditions and behavior; assures patient safety and stability.
- Administers medications by IM, intradermal or sub-q using the five rights of medication administration.
- Aids in preparation and administration of injections, cast application and removal, minor office procedures, and fitting/application of durable medical equipment (DME), including slings, braces, and crutches, while providing patient education and working within scope of practice.
- Plans and documents patient care using appropriate documentation methods.
- Provides education as needed to patients and family within scope of practice.
- Communicates lab results and other follow up information to patients.
- On presentation and throughout examination, obtains subjective/objective data through interviewing patients.
- Reviews medical records for up-to-date immunizations, problem list and other required documentation.
- Processes referrals.
- Makes patient charges.
- Registers and schedules patients to maintain orderly patient flow.
- Uses computer systems efficiently to access patient information, scheduling and communication.
- Participates in continuing education and completes all required competencies.
- Collaborates with other members of the health care team.
- Promotes teamwork within and between departments.
- Complies with department policies.
Requirements
- Education – ONE of the following should apply:
- Graduate of a state approved nursing program, and licensed to practice as Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Iowa.
- AMA Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant.
Other Qualifications:
- Must speak, hear and understand the English language.
- Basic medical terminology required.
- Must have computer experience.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and public is required.
- Knowledge of medical records documentation requirements.
- Knowledge of medical instruments and supplies.
- Knowledge of routine oral, rectal and injectable medications.
- Current BLS certification required.

Schedule
FT, Day shift, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
