About the role

This position is responsible for pre-visit planning, standard rooming responsibilities, assisting with procedures, discharge instructions and carries out both administrative and clinical tasks as directed by a medical provider. This role is instrumental in helping the patient feel at ease while collaborating with the provider throughout the patient's visit.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, perform and document vital signs and patient backgrounds.
  • Coordinate provider schedules and appointments, enter orders, and prepare patient charts.
  • Instruct patients and families as directed within scope of licensure or certification.
  • Prepare patients and assist medical providers with in-office procedures and prepare and administer medications/immunizations.
  • Maintain exam rooms and equipment to meet infection control standards. Ensure appropriate levels of medical supplies for each patient room.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or Practical Nursing program.
  • Minimum of 160 hours of direct patient care experience as a MA/LPN obtained through professional MA/LPN work experience or completion of student clinical rotations.
  • Current clinical experience as a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse (preferred).

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and skills needed for practical nurse or medical assistant to provide patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster work and patient relationships.
  • Ability to work under stressful or emergency situations with high concentration and energy level.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet changing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in the use of EMR systems, computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.

Licenses and Certifications

  • If holds other licenses that supersede CMA/RMA license, may practice to the highest level of licensure with written approval from Quality Resources.
