Responsibilities

  • Ensure all aspects of Club Sports athletic programs comply with University standards and conference and national affiliation rules and regulations.
  • Identify potential risk and help establish criteria and plans for correction.
  • Coach, counsel, advise, and mentor student athletes.
  • Work in association with the Club Sports Director to ensure proper student-athlete certifications as required by NCAA and University guidelines.
  • Explain and demonstrate principles, techniques, and methods of regulating movement of the human body, kinesiology, biomechanics, etc., to achieve proficiency in the assigned activity or sport.
  • Observe students during practice to encourage good athletic skills and provide guidance for improvements.
  • Assess student-athlete capabilities.
  • Explain and demonstrate use of apparatus and equipment.
  • Promote good sportsmanship behavior, enforce discipline, and establish penalties for breach of standards by team members according to the Club Sports Student Handbook.
  • Manage student-athlete on- and off-campus recruiting programs.
  • Assist in organizing competitions and tournaments.
  • Assist in program development, develop strategies for competitions, and set enrollment growth expectations.
  • Assist in implementing registration, payments, and medical clearance compliance prior to student participation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1 year of work experience in a similar capacity.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and occasional operation of University vehicles.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Coaches’ Safety Training certifications required; AED training preferred.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring irregular hours, out-of-town, and/or overnight travel.
  • Must pass a background investigation.

Skills

  • Fundamentals of game rules, regulations, and officiating.
  • Sport-specific game and growth development strategy.
  • University, NCAA, and league-specific rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite software.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May supervise Volunteer Coaches, Graduate Assistants, Part-time staff, and Student Leaders.
