About the role
Under supervision, incumbents perform a wide variety of laboratory tests by manual methods or use of various automated, mechanical or electronic devices. Performs the full range of duties from specimen procurement through data analysis and reporting, in order to provide data for use in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease in all areas of the lab. On a daily basis, assess overall workload for any area that needs help and help coworkers without being reassigned by the supervisor. Work is assigned daily and reviewed by supervisory personnel or designee.
All Clinical Laboratory Scientists may process specimens, perform waived and non-waived testing without direct and constant supervision, and report results without supervisor or director review for the tests that are within their scope of licensure and for which they have been trained and deemed competent.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide variety of laboratory tests using manual methods or automated, mechanical, or electronic devices.
- Conduct specimen procurement, data analysis, and reporting for disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Assess workload daily and assist coworkers in areas needing support without direct reassignment.
- Process specimens, perform waived and non-waived testing, and report results independently for tests within licensure scope.
Requirements
- Graduation from college with a major in a relevant field.
- Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or appropriate sub-specialty license issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bacteriology culture work-up and microbiology experience.
- 2+ years of applicable clinical laboratory experience.
- Ability to perform well in a collaborative environment.
Special Conditions
- Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and at various locations as necessary in accordance with operational needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical.
- If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
Pay
Annual Full Pay Range: $110,079 - $145,408 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $52.72 - $69.64
