About the role

A Cloud System Administrator at Salt Productions will help to operate, support, and maintain our cloud infrastructure. This role will focus on keeping systems healthy day-to-day, resolving issues as they come up, and making sure what's already been deployed keeps running smoothly. This is not a solution architecture role: this role won't be designing net-new infrastructure from scratch, but will be trusted to support, tune, and troubleshoot what's already in production, primarily on Google Cloud Platform.

This role will work closely with the broader IT and Operations team, gaining hands-on exposure across systems administration, cloud infrastructure, and scripting/automation, while building a strong operational foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day administration and support for cloud systems and infrastructure already deployed in production, with a focus on stability, reliability, and performance.
  • Monitor system health, logs, and alerts across GCP infrastructure, escalating and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Perform routine systems administration tasks: user/access management, patching, configuration updates, and general maintenance across cloud resources.
  • Partner with the I.T. Support Specialist to troubleshoot connectivity and infrastructure issues, applying foundational networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, routing) in a cloud-first environment.
  • Write and maintain shell scripts and Python scripts to automate repeatable administrative tasks and reduce manual effort.
  • Support GCP infrastructure post-deployment including configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of existing services (e.g., Compute Engine, IAM, storage, networking components).
  • Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure and system incidents, working with other engineers and vendors as needed to drive resolution.
  • Maintain clear, accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and support procedures.
  • Follow established security practices, including access controls, patching cadence, and basic system hardening.
  • Collaborate with the broader IT team on maintenance windows, minor upgrades, and operational improvements without owning architectural design decisions.

Requirements

  • Background in IT with hands-on systems administration experience.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, routing) as applied in a cloud environment, e.g, configuring and troubleshooting VPCs, firewall rules, and connectivity between GCP services and SaaS tools.
  • Comfort writing and maintaining shell scripts and Python for operational/automation tasks.
  • General systems administration experience (Mac, Windows and/or Linux) in a professional environment.
  • Working familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure and services.
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and ability to work through issues methodically.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with an emphasis on documentation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience supporting GCP services such as Compute Engine, IAM, Cloud Storage, VPC, or Cloud Monitoring.
  • Exposure to configuration management or infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) in a supporting, not architecting, capacity.
  • Familiarity with centralized logging/monitoring tools (e.g., Cloud Monitoring, Grafana, or similar).
  • Experience supporting SaaS integrations or identity/access platforms.
  • Prior experience in a media, production, or creative operations environment is a plus, but not required.
