Cloud Operations Technical Lead
This position reports directly to the Cloud Operations and Engineering group manager within the Enterprise IT Infrastructure service line.
About the role
The Cloud Operations Technical Lead provides leadership and supervision to the Automation and Platform Services team, overseeing all work, ensuring quality and timely delivery, and supporting staff professional development. The role involves planning and scheduling team resources, hiring and onboarding staff, conducting performance reviews, and motivating staff to meet strategic and operational goals. The team is responsible for building, supporting, and maintaining the Enterprise IT automation toolkit, supporting services, and processes used in CI/CD, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code environments. This includes managing virtual machines, containerized environments, cloud compute and storage, database environments, and supporting business AI, business intelligence, and data engineering services.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision to the Automation and Platform Services team staff.
- Oversee all work done by the team, ensuring quality and timeliness of delivery.
- Plan and schedule team resources, perform hiring, and onboard new staff.
- Support staff professional development, training, and conduct performance reviews.
- Motivate staff to meet goals set by strategic initiatives and normal workload.
- Ensure employees adhere to institutional policies and take appropriate action to improve performance.
- Provide input into merit-based salary adjustments.
- Develop and administer automation and platform services environments for mission-critical, high-availability enterprise applications and web hosting.
- Develop and maintain procedures for system management, software deployment, and continuous improvement of practices and processes.
- Consult with developers, application, and system administrators in planning needs.
- Develop automation for system and application maintenance, configuration, performance monitoring, and security testing.
- Document all processes, procedures, and services.
- Maintain system monitoring for performance, availability, and scalability.
- Provide integration services for private and public cloud hosting platforms.
- Support issues related to hosting, application hosting, and server applications.
- Develop DevOps, CI/CD, and Configuration Management processes.
- Develop and service deployment pipelines in collaboration with development, application administration, and system administration staff.
- Follow established incident and problem management practices.
- Research and assess new technologies for service development, support, and process improvement.
- Provide on-call coverage for time-critical events, production issues, or other changes during mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in information technology, Associate’s and four years, or a combination of education and experience equal to six years.
- Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) system administration experience.
- Experience with Apache Tomcat or similar technologies.
- Familiarity working in VMware virtualization environments, Azure, AWS, and other public cloud hosting environments.
- Scripting experience with Python, PHP, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
- Experience with application/system performance tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Development Operations (DevOps) experience.
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) experience.
- Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Docker Engine, Kubernetes, etc.).
- Experience with configuration management tools (Salt, Puppet, Systems Center Configuration Manager).
- Experience with Application Programming Interface (API).
- Exposure or knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering and its practices.
- Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of Drupal CMS development (internals, themes, modules).
- Understanding of TCP/IP Networking, Virtualization (VMWare), and system hardware.
- Knowledge of other database systems (Oracle, SQL Server).
- Knowledge of system and application security threats and countermeasures.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization via LDAP or Active Directory.
- Familiarity with ITIL/IT Service Management practices.

Pay
$69,560.00 - $124,580.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
