Cloud Operations Technical Lead
About the role
The Cloud Operations Technical Lead provides leadership and supervision to the Automation and Platform Services team, overseeing all work including quality and timeliness of delivery. This role reports directly to the Cloud Operations and Engineering group manager within the Enterprise IT Infrastructure service line.
The team supports the management, configuration, and lifecycle of virtual machines, containerized environments, cloud compute and storage, database environments, and services for business AI, business intelligence, and data engineering. These tools also support software development operations across multiple departments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Automation and Platform Services team staff.
- Oversee all team work, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Plan and schedule team resources, including hiring and onboarding.
- Support staff professional development, training, and performance reviews.
- Motivate staff to meet strategic and operational goals.
- Ensure adherence to institutional policies and address performance issues.
- Provide input into merit-based salary adjustments.
- Develop and administer automation and platform services for mission-critical, high-availability enterprise applications and web hosting.
- Create and maintain procedures for system management, software deployment, and continuous improvement.
- Consult with developers, application, and system administrators on planning needs.
- Automate system and application maintenance, configuration, performance monitoring, and security testing.
- Document all processes, procedures, and services.
- Maintain system monitoring for performance, availability, and scalability.
- Provide integration services for private and public cloud hosting platforms.
- Support hosting, application hosting, and server applications.
- Develop DevOps, CI/CD, and configuration management processes.
- Create and service deployment pipelines in collaboration with development, application, and system administration teams.
- Follow established incident and problem management practices.
- Research and assess new technologies for service development, support, and process improvement.
- Provide on-call support for time-critical events, production issues, or changes during mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in information technology, Associate’s and four years, or a combination of education and experience equal to six years.
- Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) system administration experience.
- Experience with Apache Tomcat or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with VMware virtualization environments, Azure, AWS, and other public cloud hosting platforms.
- Scripting experience with Python, PHP, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
- Experience with application/system performance tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Development Operations (DevOps) experience.
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) experience.
- Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Docker Engine, Kubernetes, etc.).
- Experience with configuration management tools (Salt, Puppet, Systems Center Configuration Manager).
- Experience with Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
- Exposure or knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
- Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of Drupal CMS development (internals, themes, modules).
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, virtualization (VMWare), and system hardware.
- Experience with other database systems (Oracle, SQL Server).
- Knowledge of system and application security threats and countermeasures.
- Experience with authentication and authorization via LDAP or Active Directory.
- Familiarity with ITIL/IT Service Management practices.

- Highly self-motivated and collaborative within a team.
- Accountable and effective in a project-driven organization.
- Result and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Pay
$69,560.00 - $124,580.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
