About the Role

Protiviti is looking for a Technology Consulting Associate Director to join our growing Infrastructure, Cloud, & Security Engineering team. As an Associate Director, you'll take a lead role in strengthening client relationships and providing seamless guidance in the completion of engagements. You'll partner with strategic clients to advise on and implement technical solutions to their most pressing challenges, identify new business opportunities, and build lasting relationships. You will also mentor and develop teams, oversee project work plans, and serve as an ambassador of Protiviti in the market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client engagements, providing technical guidance and solutions for infrastructure, networking, and cloud platforms.
  • Design, build, migrate, and secure systems and environments across on-premises and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with C-level executives, translating client challenges into new project proposals and sales opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop teams, fostering a positive culture with open communication and collaboration.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities through networking, knowledge-building, and client interactions.
  • Integrate product solutions and resources to enhance client service capabilities.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration across teams.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of clients across industries.
  • Translate business requirements (e.g., compliance controls, vendor requirements) into technical configurations and solutions.
  • Oversee project management, including planning, execution, and team leadership using methods like Agile or Waterfall.
  • Design, deploy, and administer solutions for server, network, storage, and application infrastructure.
  • Create and update documentation, including dependency maps, architecture overviews, and system/application procedures.
  • Lead post-merger/acquisition IT system integrations and application rationalization/dependency mapping exercises.
  • Design, implement, or administer backup, replication, and continuity solutions for server, storage, and application infrastructure.
  • Manage third-party hardware/software/service vendors and translate business continuity/disaster recovery requirements into technical solutions.
  • Provide leadership and direct supervision of teams, including performance appraisals, coaching, and motivation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking, or a relevant field, or equivalent experience delivering technology or consulting solutions.
  • 9+ years of experience in professional services, managed services, or a hands-on pre-sales role.
  • Recent hands-on experience in Windows Server and Linux systems administration, including design, deployment, and administration.
  • Working familiarity with Unix variants, Mac OS, and hypervisor platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV).
  • Strong enterprise networking design, deployment, and administration experience, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN segmentation, routing, switching, and wireless.
  • Working familiarity with enterprise-class vendors (e.g., Cisco, HPE/Aruba, Juniper, Extreme, Brocade) and network security appliances (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet).
  • Experience with cloud providers (AWS, Microsoft Azure) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platforms.
  • Familiarity with SMB/prosumer vendors (e.g., Ubiquiti, SonicWall, Mikrotik) is a plus.
  • Experience with load balancers, VPN appliances/concentrators, and enterprise storage solutions (DAS, SAN, NAS).
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, BASH/Linux shell) for administrative, auditing, and operational purposes.
  • Experience with infrastructure and server/endpoint management toolsets, including performance/capacity management, endpoint management/RMM platforms, patch/vulnerability management, and log/event aggregation (e.g., Kafka, SIEMs, Splunk).
  • Experience with capacity planning, VM/server right-sizing, and performance analysis.
  • Prior experience designing, building, or remediating environments to meet regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI-DSS, CMMC, NIST 800-53).
  • Ability to translate undocumented systems/applications/operating procedures into usable documentation and create visualizations of dependency maps or architecture overviews.
  • Experience with post-merger/acquisition IT system integrations and application rationalization/dependency mapping.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or administering backup and replication/continuity solutions for server, storage, and application infrastructure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate with executives, system/application owners, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to rapidly shift between planning/design work and hands-on execution (e.g., discovery or implementation tasks).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Personal projects or demonstrated extracurricular interest in technology is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or DevOps Engineer Expert are strongly preferred.
  • Leadership and direct supervisory experience, including conducting performance appraisals, mentoring, coaching, and motivating teams.
  • Experience establishing and cultivating business relationships with senior executives and pursuing business development opportunities.
  • Ability to translate and communicate issues, risks, or challenges to client personnel, including executives.

Work Environment

Protiviti practices a hybrid workplace model, combining in-person and remote work. The ratio of remote to in-person requirements varies by client, project, and team. In-person work may include local Protiviti offices or client sites, with potential for local or out-of-state travel based on project needs and client commitments.

Pay

Starting salary range: $153,000 - $260,000 (full-time equivalent), dependent on experience, skills, and geographic work location.

Annual bonus target opportunity: 16% of base salary.

Estimated total cash range (base salary + bonus): $177,480 - $301,600.
