Cloud Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support cloud-native SaaS applications and services.
• Build scalable, resilient, and secure distributed systems using microservices architecture.
• Develop and operate services running in public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Participate in the design and implementation of service automation, monitoring, observability, and telemetry pipelines.
• Analyze service health, performance metrics, logs, traces, and alerts to improve reliability and customer experience.
• Own services through the full lifecycle, from design and implementation to production support and continuous improvement.
• Work on deployment, configuration, and operational readiness for SaaS services in production environments.
• Review architecture, designs, implementation plans, test strategies, and operational procedures.
• Troubleshoot complex production and customer issues across application, infrastructure, database, and networking layers.
• Collaborate with engineering, product management, security, SRE, DevOps, and customer-facing teams.
• Contribute to building secure, scalable, and reliable business solutions for Cisco customers and partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in a SaaS product company; and 2+ years of hands-on experience developing or operating SaaS applications in a public cloud environment such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Programming experience in one or more languages such as Java, Python, or Go and experience designing and implementing REST APIs and backend services.
• Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS EKS and experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, load balancing, and network security concepts.
• Experience debugging and problem-solving skills across application, infrastructure, and cloud service layers.
• Experience with Generative AI, including large language models, prompt engineering, AI-assisted development workflows, and responsible use of AI in software engineering.

Qualifications

• Experience with observability platforms and tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry, Kibana, OpenSearch, or similar technologies.
• Experience building or operating telemetry, monitoring, alerting, and service health management systems.
• Experience with distributed data stores or analytics platforms such as OpenSearch, ClickHouse, or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with cloud security, identity, access control, RBAC, and multi-tenant SaaS security models.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity, networking, zero trust, or IoT security solutions.

Skills

• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or Go.
• Experience with REST APIs and backend services.
• Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration platforms.
• Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, load balancing, and network security concepts.
• Experience with Generative AI, including large language models, prompt engineering, AI-assisted development workflows, and responsible use of AI in software engineering.

Pay

The starting salary range posted for this position is $152,500.00 to $219,200.00 and reflects the projected salary range for new hires in this position in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including incentive compensation*, equity, or benefits. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location, market conditions, job-related skillset, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, and/or training.

Schedule

Employees may be eligible to receive grants of Cisco restricted stock units, which vest following continued employment with Cisco for defined periods of time. U.S. employees are eligible for paid time away as described below, subject to Cisco’s policies:

• 10 paid holidays per full calendar year, plus 1 floating holiday for non-exempt employees
• paid day off for employee’s birthday
• paid year-end holiday shutdown
• 4 paid days off for personal wellness determined by Cisco
• 16 days of paid vacation time per full calendar year, accrued at rate of 4.92 hours per pay period for full-time employees
• Exempt employees participate in Cisco’s flexible vacation time off program, which has no defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use (subject to availability and some business limitations)
• 80 hours of sick time off provided on hire date and each January 1st thereafter, and up to 80 hours of unused sick time carried forward from one calendar year to the next
• Additional paid time away may be requested to deal with critical or emergency issues for family members
• Optional 10 paid days per full calendar year to volunteer
