About the Role

The Closing Driver receives a higher pay rate and performs additional store tasks at the end of the day, such as helping with dishes and cleaning the store. To earn the higher rate, you must close a minimum of three nights per week, though you do not need to be the closing driver every day you work. You can usually serve as the late driver for your other shifts.

This position requires multitasking and thriving in a fast‑paced environment. The goal is to deliver every pizza to customers as quickly and safely as possible by operating efficiently in the store. We seek highly motivated individuals who rise to the occasion when business demands, have a competitive nature, and possess strong people skills and a desire to serve.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all store equipment.
  • Stock ingredients from the delivery area to storage, work area, and walk‑in cooler.
  • Prepare product and receive/process telephone orders.
  • Complete any required paperwork.
  • Clean equipment and facility daily; maintain store equipment.
  • Read maps and navigate to designated locations.
  • Locate addresses and deliver across adverse terrain while carrying product.
  • Use personal vehicle to deliver products.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Reliable personal vehicle with proof of insurance.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Minimum two‑year driving history; must pass motor vehicle record (MVR) and background checks.
  • Must be listed as a driver on the insurance policy covering the vehicle you will use.

Training

Orientation and on‑the‑job training are provided. Training focuses on:

  • Taking orders and labeling boxes.
  • Delivering product safely and avoiding hazards and distractions on the road.
  • Effective communication—both written and verbal—with customers and co‑workers.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide accurately and quickly (calculator may be used).
  • Make correct monetary change.
  • Verbal, written, and telephone skills for order taking and processing.
  • Motor coordination between eyes and hands/fingers for rapid, precise movements.
  • Proficiency with computer keyboards or touch screens for order entry.

Work Conditions

  • Exposure to varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions when performing outside tasks.
  • In‑store temperatures ranging from 32 °F in coolers to 90 °F+ in other areas.
  • Extreme outdoor temperatures from 0 °F to 110 °F, including rain, fog, sleet, snow, ice, wind, and dust.
  • Fumes from food odors and cornmeal dust.
  • Cramped quarters such as walk‑in coolers.
  • Hot surfaces/tools (ovens, hot plates) up to 500 °F or higher.
  • Sharp edges and moving mechanical parts.

Physical Demands

  • Standing: Most tasks are performed while standing; work surfaces are 36–48 inches high.
  • Walking/Running: Short distances or brief durations as needed.
  • Sitting: Paperwork completed at a desk or table.
  • Lifting: Cases of ingredients and supplies up to 50 lb, dimensions up to 3′ × 1.5′; lifted from floor to shelves up to 72 inches high.
  • Carrying: Large bags, boxes, or crates up to 50 lb from workstation to storage shelves; pizza dough trays (≈12 lb each) carried three at a time.
  • Pushing: Trays on dollies; a stack of 24‑30 trays requires up to 7.5 lb of force.
  • Climbing: Infrequent navigation of stairs or ladders for sign changes, wall washing, or maintenance.
  • Stooping/Bending: Forward bending at the waist at the pizza assembly station and front counter; occasional crouching/squatting to stock shelves or clean low areas.
  • Reaching: Continuous upward, downward, and forward reaching; occasional reach above 72 inches for oven controls or sign changes.
  • Hand Tasks: Continuous eye‑hand coordination; frequent use of both hands for dough shaping, pizza peel manipulation, cutting, and handling of boxes, cans, and tools.
