About the role

This fully remote, site-facing role provides support to clinical research sites participating in an oncology study. The Clinical Trial Navigator focuses on patient recruitment, prescreening, and education, serving as a knowledgeable resource for site staff on medical and administrative questions related to the trial. The position combines aspects of a Clinical Research Associate and Medical Science Liaison, helping sites understand study requirements, identify eligible patients, and navigate logistical processes to improve enrollment and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Support clinical trial sites remotely through regular WEBEX or Microsoft Teams video calls to build strong, collaborative relationships with site-level staff.
  • Provide recruitment-focused support to sites, with a primary emphasis on identifying, prescreening, and facilitating the enrollment of diverse patient populations for a small cell oncology study.
  • Assist sites with medical and protocol-related questions, including how to screen patients, interpret inclusion and exclusion criteria, and determine whether the investigational drug may exclude a volunteer.
  • Review clinical trial portals and related systems to prescreen and identify potential patients for the study, ensuring timely follow-up and documentation.
  • Work from scripts via phone and email to explain the clinical research study to potential participants, clearly outlining what participation involves, including timelines, procedures, and potential benefits.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with prospective participants, providing guidance and support throughout the prescreening and referral process, and ensuring a positive and informative experience.
  • Refer qualified and interested candidates to appropriate US-based clinical trial sites, ensuring smooth handoffs and clear communication with site staff.
  • Educate patients on the nature of clinical research, what it means to participate in this specific study, and how and when participation may benefit them.
  • Support sites with administrative and logistical aspects of the trial, including coordination tasks related to patient recruitment and trial operations.
  • Collaborate with sites to verify co-pay or coverage considerations where relevant, helping them understand any financial or access-related questions related to participation.
  • Use clinical trial management systems (CTMS) and, when applicable, Interactive Response Technology (IRT) to support trial logistics, randomization, and supply management in coordination with site staff.
  • Proactively reach out to sites, especially those that may initially indicate they do not need assistance, to clearly explain the support available and how this role can add value to their recruitment efforts.
  • Take initiative in offering solutions and support, articulating how you can help sites with questions or challenges rather than waiting to be asked for assistance.
  • Communicate in a personable and professional manner, building trust and rapport with site personnel and prospective participants.
  • Participate in scheduled calls during traditional business hours (Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and occasionally handle calls just before or after these hours as needed to support sites.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of all interactions with sites and prospective participants in the appropriate systems and tools.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) background, with experience functioning as a research nurse or clinical research coordinator.
  • Proven clinical research experience, including hands-on involvement in clinical trials and familiarity with study workflows and documentation.
  • Experience supporting clinical trials in oncology, with exposure to small cell oncology considered highly relevant.
  • Strong understanding of how to screen patients for clinical trials, including applying inclusion and exclusion criteria and assessing patient eligibility.
  • Ability to address medical and protocol-related questions from site staff in a clear and accurate manner.
  • Familiarity with clinical trial recruitment processes, including strategies to engage and recruit diverse patient populations.
  • Knowledge of Good Safety Practice (GSP) and general clinical research compliance principles.
  • Understanding of the US healthcare system and related administrative processes as they pertain to clinical trials and patient participation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex clinical research concepts in a clear and patient-friendly way over phone, email, and video.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain productive relationships with site personnel and prospective participants in a remote setting.
  • Proactive mindset, with the ability to take initiative, offer solutions, and drive engagement without waiting for direction.
  • Comfort using video conferencing platforms such as WEBEX and Microsoft Teams for frequent site-facing interactions.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while managing multiple sites, calls, and tasks efficiently.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday during traditional daytime hours, with flexibility to occasionally handle calls slightly outside these hours.
  • Willingness to commit to a 12-month assignment focused entirely on recruitment for the designated clinical study.

This is a fully remote, home-based position supporting US clinical trial sites.
