Clinical Therapist l, Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization

About the role

Wayfinder Family Services supports some of our state’s most vulnerable children, youth, and adults—including those with disabilities, those without stable housing, and survivors of abuse. The Clinical Therapist in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) delivers structured, evidence-based treatment to youth ages 12–17, including those dually diagnosed with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. Services include individual, group, and family therapy grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) frameworks. The Clinical Therapist II works as a core member of the multidisciplinary treatment team under the supervision of the Clinical Director and in coordination with the Medical Director.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical services that promote safety, recovery, health, and well-being in alignment with Wayfinder’s mission and all applicable laws and regulations.
• Deliver culturally competent, trauma-informed care tailored to youth with I/DD and behavioral health conditions.
• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments within 24 hours of admission; document findings and coordinate with intake and medical/psychiatric staff for full admission workup.
• Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with youth, guardians, and the multidisciplinary team, incorporating strengths, presenting problems, functional goals, and level-of-care criteria.
• Provide individual therapy using evidence-based approaches (CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care), adapting interventions for youth with I/DD. In PHP, individual therapy is weekly; in IOP, frequency is clinically driven.
• Monitor and document client progress toward treatment goals, adjusting interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with occupational therapists, case managers, interns, and other staff to deliver integrated care.
• Coordinate psychiatric evaluations and, when clinically indicated, initiate 5150/5585 holds in consultation with leadership; ensure follow-up care after hospitalization.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and Wayfinder policies on confidentiality, records management, and release of information.
• Participate in weekly clinical supervision to review case conceptualization, intervention strategies, documentation, and professional development.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
• California licensure as an Associate Social Worker (ASW) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) in good standing and registered with the BBS.
• Eligibility to bill for Medi-Cal services.
• Two years of experience working with high-risk children, adolescents, or families in mental health, education, child welfare, or juvenile probation systems preferred.
• One year of experience with public mental health billing and documentation preferred.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Pay

$70,304 – $72,000 per year.
