Clinical Technician - PRN

Participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and explain what they should expect during their appointment.
• Escort the patient to an exam room and perform diagnostic ophthalmic tests and procedures prior to physician seeing them, such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry.
• Assure appropriate notes and updates to patient charts/records accurately.
• Maintain clinic environment, including sterilization cleaning.
• Interact with patients to accurately gather information and enter it into our electronic medical records system.
• Proactively engage patients in communicating what to expect with the visit and continue to communicate delays or any other changes.
• Initiate and perform documentation of the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and capture past medical history.
• Accurately record all information in the EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
• Conduct tests and measure eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.
• Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
• Assist with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
• Educate patients regarding the administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions, as directed by physicians.
• Readily scribe for the physician.
• Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential, following all HIPAA requirements.
• Utilize effective problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently de-escalate any dissatisfied patients.
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications.
• Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions.
• Assist team members and complete other special projects as requested.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience (desired).
• Knowledge of medical terminology (desired).
• 0-3 years of experience.
