Clinical Technician – Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU)

In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated team in the Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU), which is part of a comprehensive cardiothoracic and vascular program. The unit cares for pre- and post-operative open heart, thoracic, and vascular surgery patients, as well as diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization patients with associated interventions such as percutaneous cardiac angioplasty, stent placement, ablations, and pacemaker/internal cardiac defibrillator insertions. You will also assist with general med/surg ICU/CCU overflow patients.

Responsibilities
- Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, including taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, patient transfers/transport, and applying external monitoring devices.
- Perform technical skills such as phlebotomy, 12-lead ECGs, and removing urinary Foley catheters.
- Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
- Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (must be obtained upon or within the new hire period; nursing students must obtain prior to hire).
- One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) OR additional education/training (e.g., mental health).
Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrate competencies in professional, technical, and clinical knowledge domains in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
- Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an 8th-grade level.
Physical Requirements
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination, and involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Medium Work.
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Schedule
This position works night shifts from 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.
Pay
The pay range for new hires is $19.25 to $25.95 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices such as shift differentials or overtime, nor does it reflect the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings account contributions).
