About the role
The CU College of Nursing is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty member with expertise in acute and primary care across the lifespan and/or teaching undergraduate nursing courses. The work location for this faculty position is in Durango, Colorado on the Fort Lewis College Campus. The ideal candidate will have teaching and scholarship experience with the ability to teach across programs. This individual will also hold a faculty appointment within the IRC: Clinical Series, Clinical Teaching Track.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate learning by engaging students in high-level learning activities related to application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of course content.
- Remain current with best practices in teaching pedagogy and cognitive learning theories.
- Develop expertise in simulation pedagogy.
- Maintain clinical relevancy regarding guidelines and interventions pertinent to patient care.
- Serve as a role model to teach students how to interact, assess, and make sound clinical decisions.
- Contribute to a psychologically safe learning environment, foster the free exchange of constructive feedback, encourage collaborative teamwork, clearly outline expectations, and cultivate a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teaching team(s) to foster continued quality improvement and shared decision-making regarding course content and assignments, clinical experiences, and/or evaluation methods.
- Provide a climate of mutual respect, open communication, and collaboration.
- Act as a role model for patient-centered care.
- Evaluate student application of knowledge.
- Participate in professional development activities that address desired learning outcomes and align with an individual’s role and the priorities of the institution.
- Use educational technology, task training devices, and computer-assisted instructional tools in the skills laboratory and classroom settings for teaching, learning, practice, and assessment of clinical competencies.
- Promote accountability among students by implementing clear guidelines and expectations for preparation, engagement, and self-directed study/practice.
- Faculty are encouraged to contribute to the body of knowledge in nursing (e.g., publications, editorials, empirical research, blogs, social media, and presentations).
- Participate in professional service to the CU Anschutz College Nursing community.
- Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of the course outcomes in the curriculum and proactively support all facets of the learning environment.
- Provide education through learner-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill patients' evolving needs and meet the marketplace's workforce demands.
- Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning, and ethics as well as personal and professional development.
- Participate in activities that promote the stature of the academic programs and the College of Nursing as well as abide by the mandates set by CU Anschutz, and the College of Nursing.
- Participate in course, curricular and program revisions/development as assigned.
- Introduce students to skills needed to succeed in a progressive teaching and learning environment that incorporates ongoing innovative strategies for competency development.
- Serve on divisional, college, and university committees;
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education.
- A master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- An earned (research or professional) doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area from an accredited institution of higher education.
- A record of demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, collegial collaboration, and commitment to a program of scholarship.
- Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.
