About the role

The NC TraCS Institute seeks a Clinical Support Technician (CST) to support clinical research activities within the Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), the largest clinical research support unit serving the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The CTRC provides outpatient research services for a diverse portfolio of clinical trials involving adult and pediatric participants, healthy volunteers, and investigators from the School of Medicine as well as other schools and disciplines across the University. The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical, administrative, and operational support for research participants and study teams in an ambulatory research setting. The CST delivers patient care services to research participants while ensuring adherence to research protocols, regulatory requirements, and CTRC standards for safety, quality, and participant-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical procedures such as obtaining and documenting vital signs, height and weight measurements, point-of-care testing, electrocardiograms (ECGs), specimen collection, processing and handling
  • Assist with participant care activities as directed by licensed providers and nursing staff
  • Support front office operations including participant scheduling, reception, visitor assistance, telephone management, and administrative coordination
  • Maintain unit readiness through inventory management, supply ordering and restocking, equipment monitoring, workspace preparation and maintenance
  • Support onboarding and orientation activities

Requirements

  • Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work
  • Current Nurse Aide certification and in good standing through the NC Department of Health & Human Services Nurse’s Aide Registry
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with pediatric patients in a clinical setting, preferably with children from newborn through 6 years of age
  • Related nursing assistant experience or experience working in a clinical research environment
  • Ability to work professionally, effectively, and diplomatically with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to successfully balance multiple competing priorities
  • Strong computer skills with experience with Epic (electronic medical record)

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to move up to 30 pounds and transport participants in a wheelchair with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to travel throughout the UNC Medical Center, the Clinical and Translational Research Center, and other University locations with or without reasonable accommodation
