About the role

The Behavioral Health Services (BHS) department at UCAN provides a combination of individual, family and group counseling, and mentoring-based services. Services are offered in various settings such as homes, schools, and community locations within Chicagoland. BHS aims to empower participants to become leaders in their communities by focusing on their strengths and promoting positive outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and administers daily activities of assigned psychotherapists to ensure clients receive safe and clinically appropriate services.
  • Monitors and approves all written assessments, ITPs, and reports for clients assigned to the team.
  • Provides regular individual clinical supervision to psychotherapists to ensure client needs are being met in accordance with best practices and policies.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of forms, case recordings, and reports provided by the staff.
  • Reviews and modifies all written assessments, ITPs, and reports for clients assigned to the team to ensure appropriateness, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Develops clear and specific ITP goals for each client based on individual needs.
  • Engages and develops rapport with a wide range of clients and structures therapy sessions in accordance with ITP goals.
  • Maintains consistency and safety throughout the session and guides therapists to make ITPs and decisions based on clinically appropriate, best practice, and ethical considerations.
  • Coordinates departmental programs as assigned, including internship/practicum processes.
  • Participates in department planning, develops and recommends unit policy and procedure changes, and implements unit projects or plans.
  • Manages team expenses by following Finance Dept. procedures in approving petty cash, payments, check requests, mileage and expense reimbursements, and other unit expenses.
  • Manages employee job performance by following HR procedures and documentation requirements for: hiring; job scheduling and assignment; disciplinary actions; recommendations for salaries, raises, promotions, demotions, and terminations.
  • Uses UCAN AAA processes to ensure quality and accountability in the work done by the team.
  • Follows all applicable regulatory standards, including but not limited to: COA standards, IDCFS licensing regulations, IDCFS policy and procedure, CPS/ISBE policy and procedure, and Medicaid procedures.
  • Acts in a professional manner at all times and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Behaves with integrity, demonstrates high ethical standards, and displays a positive image of UCAN.

Qualifications

  • MSW or MS/MA in a clinical Human Service field (psychology, counseling).
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
  • Five to seven years experience in a clinical setting.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
  • Understanding of Positive Youth Development.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and clinical supervision skills.
  • Open and respectful of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and willing to work with a diverse client population.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience and ability to use computers for data entry, communication, and report writing.
  • Working knowledge of the child welfare system.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a high-functioning team.
  • Car and valid Illinois driver’s license and insurance required.
