Clinical Staff Leader - Mother Baby

With limited supervision, the Clinical Staff Leader (CSL) reports to the Nurse Manager. For each shift worked, the CSL functions as the department’s designated nurse leader providing operational oversight and staff supervision. The CSL works in coordination with nursing leadership to ensure the achievement of optimal evidence-based patient care and department goals through efficient daily operations and compliance with established rules, regulations, and guidelines. The CSL promotes Shared Governance structure and functions and assists with providing leadership presence and staff support by covering a minimum of 1 holiday per year and 2 weekend shifts per six weeks of the unit staffing schedule (or the equivalent of 3 weekend shifts every 2 schedules).

Responsibilities

• Provide operational oversight and staff supervision for each shift worked.
• Coordinate with nursing leadership to ensure optimal patient care and departmental goals.
• Promote and maintain Shared Governance structure and functions.
• Assist with leadership presence and staff support, including coverage for holidays and weekend shifts.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Nursing degree or Associate of Nursing degree with current enrollment in an accredited BSN program and one year of work experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Certification in specialty area is strongly preferred.
• Successful completion of CSL competency-based training within a designated time period.
• Extensive knowledge of the department’s patient population, healthcare trends, and community/regional resources.
• Demonstrated ability to establish effective collegial working relationships with diverse groups, medical staff, and other healthcare disciplines.

Qualifications

• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross equivalent).
• Some positions require Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA) is preferred.

• Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force (frequent). Examples include:
  • Transferring a 100 lb. patient requires 50 lbs. of force; for every additional 100 lbs., assistance is required.
  • 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet.
  • 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient using one hand.
• Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one or both eyes (continuous).
• Ability to see and recognize objects at close and far distances (continuous).
• Ability to match or discriminate between colors (continuous).
• Good depth perception and peripheral vision (continuous).
• Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (continuous).
