Clinical Social Worker, Ambulatory Behavioral Health

About the role

The Clinical Social Worker I is a licensed, experienced professional who serves as the clinical expert in the assessment and treatment of patients and families, and provides social work consultation to interdisciplinary teams in various inpatient and ambulatory settings within the Yale New Haven Health System.

As the clinical expert, the scope of practice includes diagnostic assessment, counseling, psychotherapy, brief treatment, crisis intervention, mental health consultation, teaching/mentoring, and participation in projects or task forces as assigned. The clinical social worker collaborates with healthcare teams across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Interact professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, lifestyle, and physical ability backgrounds.
• Perform diagnostic assessments, counseling, psychotherapy, brief treatment, and crisis intervention.
• Provide mental health consultation and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Engage in teaching, mentoring, and project or task force participation as assigned.
• Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills through educational opportunities to meet state licensure, hospital, and departmental standards.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree from an accredited school of social work.
• For Connecticut: 3,000 hours of post-masters social work experience and 100 hours of post-masters clinical supervision (consistent with LCSW licensure requirements).
• For Rhode Island: 24 months of experience licensed as a licensed clinical social worker under appropriate supervision (consistent with LICSW licensure requirements).
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) from the State of Connecticut, or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) from the State of Rhode Island. Those holding licenses from other states will need an endorsement and must meet Connecticut or Rhode Island licensure requirements.
