Description

Provides expertise in support of physical or mental health research projects. Typically works out of a clinic or other health care facility and may travel to homes, schools or residential facilities to collect data. Performs advanced testing procedures, data collection, and analysis. Typically works directly with human subjects. Ensures experiments are performed according to specifications. May make recommendations to changes in procedure, processes, or experimental design. May prepare and/or edit research papers, grant proposals and reports.

Job Duties

  • Support faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students with the creation of analytic data files and the conduct of statistical analysis.
  • Responsible for loading, validating, documenting, managing, and analyzing data for research projects.
  • Develop and maintain thorough data documentation, data dictionaries, and standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting with data storage and management issues around both new and ongoing projects within the department.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with institutional and federal data privacy policies.
  • Mentor junior programmer/analysts

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant areas that involves health data analytics.
  • Experience: High proficiency in SAS and SQL for data management and statistical analysis. Data management and analysis skills with other software. Demonstrated experience working with large healthcare datasets (e.g., insurance claims, EMR).
  • Certification/Licensing: SAS certification preferred.
  • Work Complexity: Requires being able to work independently, manage multiple projects, and communicate effectively in a collaborative academic environment.

Summary

The Department of Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy (PHOP) at the University of Houston, College of Pharmacy, is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Researcher III to support multiple research projects focused on health outcomes, pharmacoepidemiology, and population health. This position will play a key role in managing, processing, and analyzing large healthcare datasets, including insurance claims, electronic medical records (EMR) and other real-world data sources.
