Clinical Research Pharmacist
About the role
The Clinical Research Pharmacist provides clinical resources to clinical trial patients, research department staff, and pharmacy department staff. Ensures compliance with local, state, national, and federal regulations for all medication-related aspects of clinical trial protocols. Manages pharmacy product quality and adheres to legal pharmacy standards. Oversees the preparation and dispensing of investigational products and supervises pharmacy technicians.
Responsibilities
- Serve as coordinator/liaison between research and pharmacy departments for all clinical trial needs
- Participate in feasibility assessments, protocol reviews, and site initiation visits (SIV)
- Oversee delegated pharmacist and pharmacy technicians for all clinical trial protocols
- Provide clinical support and oversight for delegated staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
- Offer clinical pharmacy services through drug information, patient education, and professional staff support
- Communicate with sponsor study monitors and respond to pharmacy-related inquiries
- Maintain study pharmacy manuals and protocols in the pharmacy shared drive
- Dispense investigational products for clinical trial patients
- Collaborate with research and pharmacy departments to create standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure medication appropriateness through medication reconciliation and order review
- Compound and accurately dispense intravenous solutions and related supplies
- Formulate, prepare, and maintain quality control of pharmaceutical preparations
- Check medication preparation and oversee delegated pharmacy services
- Communicate with prescribers and providers regarding drug therapy and patient response
- Build and update treatment regimens in the electronic medical record (EMR) for clinical trial protocols
- Fulfill responsibilities listed in various pharmacist job descriptions as needed
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (BS Pharm)
- Successful completion of a PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency specializing in oncology or 3 years of clinical pharmacy/IDS experience
- Current, active, and unrestricted Tennessee Pharmacy licensure
- Proven presentation experience
- Personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, and innovation
- Adept to continual learning and development
- Effective communication skills including patient education, staff mentoring, and drug information
- Ability to change between tasks with accuracy and proficiency
- Knowledge and compliance of regulatory bodies that apply to IDS

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
