Specific Responsibilities
- Designs, validates, and performs cell-based, biochemical, immunology, and virology assays.
- Constructs and propagates mutant viruses.
- Evaluates EC50 of selected drug candidates against mutant viruses.
- Understands mechanisms of action (MOA) of lead compounds in clinical settings.
- Interprets results, proactively troubleshoots technical challenges, and recommends potential solutions based on personal observations and/or literature searches.
Essential Duties and Job Functions
- Plans and executes experiments that support research activities and project goals.
- Demonstrates and applies a high level of understanding of project goals and methods.
- Selects appropriate methods and techniques in performing experiments with general guidance and direction.
- Recommends creative solutions to problems, researches new methods and techniques, and seeks out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions.
- Works with limited to minimal supervision on projects of moderate scope and complexity.
- Participates in group meetings.
- Clearly presents results of work, interprets data, and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
- Typically requires a BS/BA or MS degree in Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or other related life science discipline and minimum 3+ years of relevant experience.
- The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in one or more of the following techniques: primary cell isolation and culture, ELISA/Luminex, molecular biology techniques such as RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR, cloning and virus production, immune cell functional assays, and multi-color FACS.
- The candidate should be a creative and goal-oriented problem solver capable of working independently.
- The candidate must be able to process data and evaluate data quality, including recognizing anomalous and inconsistent results.
- The candidate should have strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
