About the role
Bonus eligible up to $20k for experienced RNs and up to $10k for new graduates. Located in Central Virginia, this position is part of a regional, nonprofit healthcare system with a Magnet® designation.
Responsibilities
Clinical - Assessment: Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing data collection based on patient's immediate condition or needs within specified timeframes. Conducts ongoing assessments as needed and reprioritizes care.
Clinical - Planning: Develops, modifies, and integrates an individualized care plan incorporating the medical plan of care, key elements from other disciplines, and standards of care. Establishes individualized, measurable patient goals in collaboration with the patient, family, and health care team.
Clinical - Intervention: Performs appropriate treatments and therapeutic nursing interventions as per the plan of care. Recognizes potential problems and responds to urgent/emergent risks. Initiates emergency resuscitative measures as necessary. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to ensure appropriate care.
Clinical - Evaluation: Evaluates patient responses to care and adjusts the interdisciplinary care plan accordingly. Identifies and communicates recurring practice concerns impacting care.
Clinical - Patient Education: Identifies learning needs of patients and families, teaching them based on their needs. Ensures patients demonstrate knowledge of their treatment plan.
Self and Peer Learning: Assumes responsibility for assessing and meeting own learning and professional development needs. Maintains current competency in nursing specialty and requirements for department. Attends required educational programs and participates in professional societies.
Clinical Leadership: Assumes responsibility for managing a specialty patient population. Supervises delegated care based on abilities of personnel and patient acuity. Reports changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel.
Service Recovery: Participates in service recovery and uses appropriate resources during complex situations. Handles conflict resolution in an appropriate, timely, and consistent manner.
Resource Utilization and Stewardship: Supports organizational efforts regarding appropriate resource utilization. Serves as a preceptor/mentor and assists in the orientation, instruction, direction, and evaluation of students assigned to the unit.
Improvement Activities: Participates in data collection for quality assurance activities. Identifies and communicates recurring practice concerns in specialty areas. Participates in initiatives resulting from nurse-sensitive, quality, and other specialty indicators.
Ethics: Maintains confidentiality in matters as outlined in Centra policies. Delivers care in a manner that protects patient autonomy, dignity, and rights. Serves as a patient advocate.
Qualifications
Minimum: Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing, or Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BSN).
Experience: At least one year of nursing (RN) experience.
Licenses & Certifications: Registration as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia and/or holds a compact license to practice in Virginia. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. ACLS requirements may be waived for 100% remote employees.
Specialty Requirements: Additional certifications may be required after hire date according to department/unit standards.
