About the role

At LifeNet Health, you’ll play a vital role in advancing our mission. As a Clinical Referral Specialist, you’ll ensure timely on-site response, assessment, and evaluation of potential organ donors. You’ll interact with hospital staff to set up optimal family approach processes, assess care plans, neurological and hemodynamic status, and family communication plans. You’ll evaluate donor designation, hemodilution, and ABO confirmation, review assessments with the Medical Operations Center (MOC), request labs per protocol, and obtain blood specimens for serological and HLA testing. Your work will contribute directly to life-changing outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Evaluation: Respond to donor referrals in all donor service area hospitals. Perform independent assessments of potential donors to ensure they meet medical criteria for donation. Obtain appropriate blood specimens for serological and HLA testing.
  • Communication: Communicate with LifeNet Health staff on all donor and referral activity to evaluate donation suitability based on information collected from patient charts and hospital staff.
  • Hospital Relations: Establish initial dialogue with the hospital’s clinical team to foster collaboration. Communicate LifeNet Health processes and plans, and assess care plans, neurological and hemodynamic status, and family communication plans.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation in LifeNet Health’s EMR and hospital EMR in compliance with hospital Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and LifeNet Health policy. Review referral hospital medical records and populate LifeNet’s electronic medical records (EMR) according to policy.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree.
  • One of the following valid licenses or certifications:
    • Respiratory Therapist (RT),
    • Advanced EMT, EMT-I, or EMT-P,
    • Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Two (2) years of clinical/medical experience relative to required licensure or certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field.
  • 1-year Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) experience managing clinical aspects of donation.

Skills

  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Teams (Excel and PowerPoint preferred).
  • Psychological Skills: Ability to manage stressful situations involving complex clinical scenarios and family dynamics.
  • Attention to Detail: Perform tasks thoroughly and with care; ensure high accuracy, completeness, and on-time delivery.
  • Business Acumen: Work independently with in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Communication & Presentation: Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and build relationships at all professional levels.
  • Time Management: Prioritize multiple, competing priorities and manage workload effectively.
  • Critical Thinking: Make independent decisions regarding medical management of organ donors, staff triage, and logistical arrangements.
  • Logistical Analysis: Solve problems step-by-step, looking beyond obvious solutions.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate and work as part of a team to resolve issues and meet business needs.
  • Compliance: Knowledge of medical compliance and data sharing.

Pay

Salary Range: $24.64 - $32.85/hour. Final compensation will be based on factors such as geographic location, qualifications, and prior relevant experience.

Schedule

  • Full-Time, 12-hour shifts (13 shifts per month).
  • 2 weekends per month and some holidays.
