About the role
This position is responsible for scheduling appointments, providing patient referrals, and documenting patient interactions. The role requires strong communication skills, knowledge of clinical processes, and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Reviews work queues to identify unscheduled ordered services and connects with patients to schedule appointments
- Schedules complex specialty appointments and adheres to protocols
- Communicates pre and post appointment instructions to patients
- Schedules ordered medical services accurately and links orders to appointments
- Provides provider referrals to patients based on ordered medical services and patient preferences
- Documents all contact attempts to schedule ordered medical services in patient electronic health records
- Notifies ordering providers when an ordered medical service is removed
- Provides high-level patient service by problem-solving, documenting patient concerns, and identifying follow-up for patients
- Educates patients on referral and authorization requirements, payer coverage, and insurance-related changes
- Performs registration responsibilities to ensure accurate patient information and confirms patient payer information
Requirements
- High school graduate
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in a medical group with focused experience in patient care coordination and scheduling of specialty services
- Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology
Skills
- Knowledge of clinical processes and procedures
- Knowledge of patient-focused software systems (e.g. EPIC & Interactive Intelligence (I3))
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent customer service skills
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exposed to a normal office environment, with possible travel and exposure to weather and road conditions. Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
