The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level impatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance abuse treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral complex in the state, inpatient/residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across the divisions of NMBHI to ensure high quality treatment and care is delivered.

Why Does the Job Exist?

Incumbent will evaluate patients utilizing psychological assessment tools for determining proper diagnosis, treatment needs and recommendations, need for hospitalization, response to treatment and prognosis. Incumbent will be responsible for providing direct psychological services in the Adult Psychiatric Services Division.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan Assessments
  • Experience with preparing legal documents
  • Experience with policies, procedures, and process for patient care
  • Experience in guardianship appointments for patients
  • Licensed by the New Mexico Board of Psychologist Examiners and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification
  • Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required experience

Employment Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License
  • Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate
  • SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITIONS--This position ls designated as safely sensitive
  • Employment Is subject to pre-employment and random testing
  • Employment ls subject to nationwide criminal background checks and is conditional pending results
  • Criminal Records Background Check-Must successfully complete post offer pre-employment criminal records background check
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Working Conditions

  • Position will perform working primarily in an office setting with extensive computer and phone usage and exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT)
  • Lifting up to 30 lbs(pounds) may be required
