About the role

The Emergency Medicine (EM) Clinical Programs Manager is a key leadership role responsible for advancing operational performance, clinical effectiveness, and strategic initiatives across Emergency Departments (EDs) within the organization. This role combines clinical expertise with operational and analytical acumen to enhance throughput, performance metrics, patient experience, and quality outcomes at scale.

This individual partners with clinical and operational leadership to improve ED throughput, optimize performance metrics, and drive consistent, high-quality care delivery across a geographically diverse footprint. The role requires a strong clinical Emergency Medicine background, deep operational experience, and a strong understanding of throughput metrics, patient flow, project management, and performance improvement methodologies. Additionally, the ability to demonstrate success leading complex, multidisciplinary initiatives at scale is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee ED operational performance across multiple groups, identifying trends and opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality outcomes at scale.
  • Collaborate closely with group leadership, Vice Presidents of Operations, Regional Medical Directors, System Medical Directors, and Facility Medical Directors to improve department metrics and identify opportunities for growth, expansion, and innovation.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment across a broad set of stakeholders with varying priorities and backgrounds.
  • Partner with Performance Improvement Consultants (PIC) and Regional Performance Directors to implement and disseminate best practices across the enterprise.
  • Lead large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives involving clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and execution of national Emergency Medicine strategic initiatives, with a focus on ED throughput optimization, and ensure measurable, sustained improvements.
  • Lead special projects aligned with Emergency Medicine service line priorities.
  • Establish structured project plans, governance models, and performance tracking mechanisms to ensure successful execution and scalability of projects.
  • Review and conduct deep-dive analyses of quarterly performance metrics to identify root causes and translate data into actionable insights and plans to address identified opportunities.
  • Monitor and analyze performance data, including throughput, quality, and patient experience metrics across all regions.
  • Identify high-performing and underperforming sites and collaborate with operational and clinical leadership to implement targeted improvement strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Clinical Nursing background required, with significant experience in emergency medicine.
  • Prior experience as an Emergency Department Manager within a large hospital or health system.
  • Demonstrated success leading operations or initiatives across multiple sites, regions, or markets.
  • Strong experience in designing and implementing scalable operational solutions.
  • Proven track record managing complex, multidisciplinary projects in a healthcare environment.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and drive enterprise-level decision-making.
  • Deep understanding of ED throughput, operational workflows, and performance metrics.
  • Exceptional communication, both verbally and in writing; ability to analyze complex issues and provide accurate, well-reasoned information.
  • Strong organizational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority across a matrixed organization.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and solutions-oriented.
  • Knowledge of project management methods is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with TeamHealth and client leaders and influencers (e.g., C-Suite, Group Presidents, operational and clinical leadership, directors, managers, physicians).
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Apply sound judgment, decision-making, critical thinking, and analytical abilities.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. PowerBI experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse portfolio of projects.

Work Environment

  • Regular attendance at work is 40 hours a week, five days a week on weekdays, during regular business hours, and as needed thereafter.
  • Availability and ability to appear on video for Zoom and other meetings, which may require virtual or in-person attendance.
  • Minimal travel is required.
  • Prolonged sitting, including prolonged work in front of a computer, including the use of a keyboard and screen.
  • Position requires manual dexterity and frequent use of the computer, telephone, office equipment, and the ability to perform repetitive motions required to meet productivity standards to comply with the essential functions of the job.
  • Requires physical and mental stamina to work additional hours beyond the regular schedule as needed.
