About the role

The Senior Product Owner, Utilization Management sits within the technology organization and is responsible for managing products within the Utilization Management value stream. This role owns product priorities for an assigned product area and helps ensure the platform supports the needs of all three lines of business: Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid. This role serves as a critical bridge between business and technology teams, translating business needs, operational requirements, regulatory considerations, and user insights into clear product priorities and actionable work for delivery teams.

This individual manages and prioritizes the team backlog, maintains the integrity of features and components within their product area, and partners closely with Engineering, Architecture, Design, operations, and business stakeholders to deliver high-value outcomes. The Senior Product Owner supports the broader Utilization Management product strategy by leading execution of initiatives that may span multiple products, workflows, and lines of business. They help optimize the roadmap to support business goals, operational efficiency, compliance requirements, and user experience while ensuring technology teams have the clarity needed to execute effectively.

This role serves as a key point of coordination for delivery readiness, business alignment, and outcome execution within their assigned product area. The Senior Product Owner partners closely with product leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to manage risks, define success measures, support prioritization decisions, and communicate progress. This individual is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, influence across organizational boundaries, and possess a strong understanding of how to connect strategic intent with technical execution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog for an assigned product within the Utilization Management value stream
  • Translate business, operational, clinical, and regulatory needs into clear product requirements and delivery priorities
  • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams to ensure shared understanding of priorities, scope, and expected outcomes
  • Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Design, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver features and enhancements aligned to business and operational goals
  • Support platform capabilities across Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid while accounting for line-of-business-specific needs
  • Identify, manage, and communicate dependencies, risks, and impacts across teams, products, and workflows
  • Support development and ongoing refinement of the product roadmap for the assigned product area
  • Define, monitor, and socialize product, delivery, and outcome metrics tied to business objectives
  • Partner with leadership to support implementation planning, readiness, and communication for new capabilities
  • Contribute to cross-product coordination and value stream planning to support broader Utilization Management strategy

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of work experience
  • Prior working experience in an agile environment
  • Strong negotiation, organizational, management, analytical, and people skills
  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary product teams
  • Adept at problem-solving, decision-making, collaboration, teamwork, growth mindset, execution, and delivery
  • Comfortable and confident leading team discussions
  • Fact-based problem solver with the ability to proactively identify and address potential issues, evaluate alternative courses of action, and make sound management decisions
  • Strong critical thinker who makes balanced, insightful decisions while considering broader business impact
  • Able to coach and mentor junior team members

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred, specialized training, or relevant professional qualification.

Pay

The typical pay range for this role is $118,450.00 - $236,900.00. This pay range represents the base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors. This position is also eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range, as well as an award target in the company’s equity award program.
