About the role

Rush Medical Center Hospital, part of Rush University Medical Center, is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Malignant Hematology, Medical Oncology, Gynecologic Oncology, and Stem Cell Therapy (SCT).

Responsibilities

  • Outpatient care: Available as needed during the evaluation phase, participate in development of patient education materials, and be available on a consultative basis to the outpatient SCT clinic.
  • Inpatient Acute Care: Attend interdisciplinary rounds, review drug therapy, reconcile home medications, discuss medication order clarifications, provide individual patient/family counseling, and provide pharmacokinetic consultations.
  • Discharge Planning: Participate in discharge planning and discuss relevant changes to the home medication list with the team and/or the patient as required.
  • Hematology/Oncology/SCT: Act as the pharmacy liaison to the Cancer Center, coordinate pharmacy participation in committees, and actively participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Department of Pharmacy: Provide updates in transplant therapeutics, assist with chemotherapy monographs, and precept pharmacy students.
  • Universal Pharmacist Responsibilities: Order approval staffing, aseptic technique, document I-vents, and monitor the use of expensive medications.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Illinois Pharmacist License, Post Graduate ASHP Year Two Pharmacy Residency in Hematology/Oncology, Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy Specialty, BLS Certification, ACLS Certification (preferred), Doctor of Pharmacy degree and residency certificate, experience and strong knowledge base in chemotherapy.
  • Prior to or within 18 months of hire: Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy Specialty.
  • Knowledge: Intravenous admixture services, intravenous drug therapy and chemotherapy and cellular therapies.
  • Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems.
